Frequently Asked Questions
Why was this site down so long
thewho.net has been a hobby for more than 10 years now. At times I have other things that prevent me from giving the site as much time as I would like. In 2006 the server had a severe meltdown, causing a complete loss of data. While I was able to quickly replace the machine, the data was not so easy to replace. About this same time I was preparing for a life changing event: Moving to another country.
Some of the webmasters have kept their sites well updated, and I appreciate their efforts! I hope that the new thewho.net is to your liking, and hope to keep it well updated in the future!
Where can I complain about a user on the forums?
There are several "moderators" on the forums to watch for abusiveness. We try to allow people to "speak their minds", but we will enforce "reasonable" standards at all time.
If you have a specific problem, write to me at firstname.lastname@example.org and I'll look into your situation personally!
Can I use one of your pictures on my website/in my book?
The images on thewho.net are from various sources and are posted for "nonprofit research, scholarship & commentary about The Who, its members and their activities." Some pictures are the personal property of the users who posted them. If you do use some of the images we've collected, we request that it be for non-profit use, and that you provide a credit to the photographer if known, as well as a credit to thewho.net and/or the user who posted the image.
Also, please download the image and serve it from your own server rather than linking to our images. We pay for our bandwidth! A link to our images on your site or used in a forum or chat room uses our bandwidth. We regularly review the logs and will rename/remove pictures being served to 3rd party sites and replace the image with one stating that the image was being "hijacked" from our site. If you would like to become a sponsor of thewho.net we can consider letting you use our bandwidth to serve images on 3rd party websites.
I'd like to create a website on thewho.net what do I need to do?
Write me (email@example.com) and tell me your ideas!
We offer free webspace for any good ideas!!! We have a couple of restrictions on the use of our free services, but feel free to write and we can discuss your options.
I can't find a page I know used to be here
Sometimes we move pages around, sometimes we even drop a page. Use the search, and google the information your looking for. We can TRY to help you locate something if you can give us enough information, but we will use the same search engines you have available to you, so please try to find it before writing us.
