Hello,

I was subscribed to the old Odds&Sods mailing list 10 years ago. Then, we had a project going called "Who'll cover Who". Everyone would send in their version recording of their favourite Who songs, back then by cassette tape. Someone project co-ordinator would compile a tape album, make tape copies and send them out to all the contributors.
I remember that 3 volumes of these albums had been recorded and sent out to contributors.
Just today, I was sorting out my old cassette tapes, those to trash and those to keep.
I found these old tapes, "Who'll cover Who". So, now I listend to "Who'll cover Who, Volume III". There's great recordings of fan's interpretations of their favourite Who songs on these tapes. The sound quality of some songs is below standards, but it's the intensity and emotional power of the performances that thrills me.
Unfortunately, I have lost the liner notes for these tapes during some house movings. So, if someone still has these old liner notes, I'd be thankfull if you could send them to me.

And, on the other hand.

Could we re-install such a project once more?

We all would record our favourite Who songs at home, send the recordings in, have someone master a CD, and send the CD-Rs of all these recordings back to all contributors?

Maybe, could we all join together on one song? Say, one would start with a backing track, pass that one over to the next contributor, he or she would overdub their instruments or vocals, pass that recording to the next one in line, and so on.
We would end up with a recording of a Who song where everyone of us would sing vocals or play instruments on it. Wouldn't that be nice?

Any comments on this proposal?

Best regards

Burkhard

I remember the first "Who'll cover Who" very well, although I believe I only had a copy of the first, and after moving to another country, unfortunately, tapes did not make the move.

I would love to get copies of what you have - and have a proposal for another round. If possible, maybe you could digitize the tapes you have, and I'll give space here at thewho.net for you to upload, and people could download the songs as they want them. This would also work for new recordings. If ANYONE wants to upload a Who song they've done, I'd be happy, and honored, to have it posted here where anyone could download.

What does everyone think of this??

BTW....odds&sods is still running - so maybe posting there would get more attention and more responses. Go here to subscribe: www.thewho.net/mailman...ddsandsods
