Use PD music only version for best results

There's a specific technique I use for this precursor to "Who Are You".
From what I gather, PT uses a 8th note-beat sequencer program on his ARP
synth. This can be mimicked on a guitar, optimally a Les Paul/SG style
guitar, or any other guitar with 2 separate volume controls. Turn the
bridge pickup volume down and leave the neck pickup volume all the way
up. Using the toggle switch with your picking hand, rapidly (but
lightly) switch between the 2 pickups, kinda like turning a light switch
on and off rapidly. You'll achieve what I call a "cutoff note". If you
have reverb on your amp, switch it off, as it interferes with the
cutoff. Use a (slow) flanger or phaser, if possible, for enhansement.
Compression would really help, too.
Here's the patterns:

Fig 1- (0:12) -- With your fretting hand, pluck the Low E string.

Fig. 2 (0:37) -- fret the notes as hammer ons using lots of compression.
I put a repeat signature-- do it 5é adding an extra E in there.

Fig. 3 (1:04) -- This is the hardest part. The trick is to get all thes
notes to sound almost as ghost notes i.e. to hide the sound of the
hammer on.

With plenty of practice , you can pull this off effectively. If you're
lucky enough to have 2 amps and an A/B switch (as well as a fast tapping
foot), you can achieve a cool stereo effect. I recommend this method
for players Who don't have 2 volume controls on their guitars. Volume
swells are discouraged, as they would elominate the "choppiness" as well
as kill your volume knob. For those of you Who are really brave, I
suggest applying this technique to "Who Are You", if you'd like to try
the arrangement live.
