NORTH AMERICA TOUR 1971
- 29/7/71, Forest Hills Tennis Stadium, NYC (2C)
- An excellent audience recording; great show; great Keith; Roger mentions that the new album is being released this week; has Love Ain’t For Keeping and a great Pure And Easy, which sounds just like it does on Odds and Sods - First show of the US tour, hindered by tremendous rains during the performance: Roger says, “We’d like to enjoy the rain with you but unfortunately our equipment doesn’t like it very much.” Keith (I think) calls the new album, “The Who Sing Gene Kelly:I’m Singing In the Rain”; The Marquee is referred to as “equally damp” and Baby Don’t Ya Do It “starts with Keith Moon and you clapping your wet hands.”

- 31/771, Forest Hills Tennis Stadium, NYC (3C)
- Good-very good audio; first song (Love Ain't For Keeping) is missing the first minute - Same set list as the 7/29/71 show, except that this show ended with Naked Eye; there seemed to be an infestation of cockroaches on the stage that night-Pete yells out, “Another cockroach!” and “When you find a cockroach in your cutlery drawer, this is what you do.” Pete mentions how much it rained Thursday and talks about “killing cockroaches”

- Excellent audience recording form the front of the balcony. The band barely puts a foot wrong in what is. IMO. the best audience tape of the year. Fades out after BDYDI then in for the start of Magic Bus. Fades out after end of Magic Bus. Incomplete. A scant video snippet of the pre- show / rehersal exists but hardly notable. Track list unknown.

- 9/12/71, The Forum, Los Angeles (3C)
- Not the greatest Who show ever but reasonable audio; Pete forgets the words to Bargain but a wonderful solo in Summertime Blues; runs slow during My Wife and there are a lot of other tape wobbles; Roger makes a great comment about PT’s boots. The start of Overture is abandoned because the guitar is badly out of tune and the re-start doesn’t improve things much leading to a truly awful Pinball Wizard; resurrected the show though with stunning Naked Eye and Goin’ Down climax; tape cuts at the guitar smash.

- 10/12/71, Civic Arena, Long Beach, CA (3C)
- Good-very good audio; great show; seems to be a crowd control problem-people in front are being crushed; John screws up My Wife vocals twice!!!-comes in late and starts to sing wrong lyrics later-I guess the song was pretty new at the time; Roger misses a line in Won't Get Fooled Again; very long Baby Don't Ya Do It, in fact side 2 has only 3 songs but fills up most of the tape.
